Yoga Foundations Course

In our Foundations Course (all levels of experience welcome, including beginners) you will learn the fundamentals of a yoga practice.

This course is educational and experiential (with plenty of practice) and includes :-

* Essential yoga postures (asana) to facilitate flexibility and build strength
* Breath-centered approach excellent for wellbeing, relaxation effect, vitality and health
* Deep relaxation techniques
* Yoga meditation techniques
* The Power of Now in yoga-mindfulness practice

Central to our approach to yoga is individualising yoga to meet the needs of each person. Everyone is welcome. These classes are fun as we explore the postures, a variety of sequences and class sizes are kept small to ensure personalised attention.

February 5th, 2019:Yoga Relaxation and Meditation Course

A 6-week Yoga Relaxation, Meditation Course infused with iRest® Yoga Nidra based practices

DATE: February 5th- March 12th , 2019. (Tuesday evenings)

TIME :7:30pm – 8:30 pm

The Classes will provide a mix of gentle movement, breath integration and  infused with Integrative Restoration Yoga Nidra – IRest ® practices. 

Based on the ancient teachings of meditation, iRest is an evidence-based transformative practise that helps to bring balance and equanimity to all aspects of your being; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The practice involves guided instruction to support you on a journey of self-enquiry wherein you experience relaxation, which facilitates physical and emotional balance, health and wellbeing.

iRest was developed by Clinical Psychologist Richard Miller and has been researched extensively over the past 20 years.

People who practice Yoga, relaxation and Meditation report:

Here are some FAQ’s about getting started with yoga which we hope inspire you to give it go!

“I’ve never done yoga, what’s the best way to get started?”

A beginners course is the best way to start, this way you will receive guidance through the foundation poses and basic breathing techniques. Alternatively a one-on-one private session if you have a injury/ specific health condition. This way you can get a practise that is personalised to meet your needs.

“I’m not flexible, I can’t touch my toes, can I do yoga? “

No problem. We are all different. We will happily modify postures so they are appropriate for you. Also practising yoga regularly will improve your flexibility, so you will notice your toes getting closer and closer….

“What should I wear to a yoga class?”

Wear some comfortable loose fitting clothes, perhaps a t-shirt or singlet top that allows movement and pants such as dance tights, tracksuit pants or shorts.

“Do I need a mat? Where can I get one from ?”

You can buy a mat from us or you can use one of our mats at the centre. 

“Should I do anything special to prepare before a class”

As yoga is best practised on an empty stomach, please refrain from eating for at least an hour and a half before the class.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts.

“How will I know what to do in the class?”

Our trained teachers will lead you through the practice, carefully explaining and guiding you through each pose. Also we encourage you to listen to your body. If a posture does not feel right or hurts, please let the teacher know so it can be modified to best suit you.

“Why should I practice Yoga?

Yoga can help to calm the mind, strengthen and bring balance to your body, increase your self awareness and an overall sense of wellbeing.

It’s been a busy time at the studio over the last six weeks or so, preparing to launch Cammeray Yoga as an initiative of The Yoga Institute. From changing over signs and creating the new website, to tweaking and refining the timetable, to photo shoots and picture wall planning…. It’s been a mammoth effort.

In the spin and swirl of all the excitement, it’s only human to forget the important things.

Like breathing.

As Desikachar so succinctly points out, breathing is the cornerstone to living a life in yoga. A practice that comes off that 180 x 60cm textured grip, eco friendly mat, and into the actual world beyond the studio.

Breathing is the heart of yoga practice. Yes we love the asana and all the benefits this physical part of the practice can bring, but at the end of the day, I think it’s fair to say that that extra element people are often looking for when they slip their shoes off and roll out their mat, is a connection to something very still and centered. Breath has the capacity to steady and soothe, or to fortify and energize. Amazing stuff. And we make a focus on breath the epicentre of our teaching here.
